The gaming industry has once again found itself in the crosshairs of cybercriminals with the massive leak of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6). A hacker known as "CYBERLEEK" has bypassed Rockstar Games' security to distribute unauthorized gameplay footage. Interestingly, the motive appears to be shifting away from traditional ransomware extortion and toward the promotion of a personal cryptocurrency. This suggests a new era of "influence-driven" cyberattacks where stolen intellectual property serves as marketing collateral for the hacker's own financial ventures, bypassing the need for a direct payout from the victim company.

The Growing Threat of Residential Proxies

This makes their actions appear as legitimate home user activity, significantly complicating detection for security teams and allowing hackers to conduct scraping, credential stuffing, or DDoS attacks with a lower risk of being blocked.
