Multiple critical vulnerabilities in Botslab G980H Dashcams could allow unauthorized users to gain administrative control and access sensitive device data.

Security Risks in Botslab Dashcams

A recent security advisory has uncovered a series of vulnerabilities within the Botslab G980H Dashcam series. These flaws could be exploited to bypass authentication protocols, enabling attackers to gain unauthorized access to the device's privileged functionality and sensitive data. The scope of the risk includes the ability to modify device configurations and disrupt the normal operation of the recording systems.

These vulnerabilities represent a significant threat to user privacy, as dashcams often record audio and video from the vehicle's interior and surroundings. Exploitation allows attackers to compromise both the integrity of the data and the functional reliability of the hardware.

Mitigation and Recommendations

As a proactive measure, we advise owners of the Botslab G980H series to take the following steps:

  • Apply Security Patches: Verify your firmware version against the latest releases provided by the manufacturer. Updating to the latest version is critical to closing these vulnerabilities.
  • Review Device Settings: Disable unnecessary features or remote access capabilities if they are not explicitly required for your use case.
  • Limit Physical Access: Ensure the device is properly secured and is not accessible to unauthorized individuals who might attempt a local exploit.
  • Audit Data Logs: Regularly check the device's activity logs for any suspicious configuration changes or unexpected behavior that may indicate unauthorized access attempts.
